State of CT Suicide Prevention Requirement 2022.

Effective in January of 2022, the State of Connecticut Office of Emergency Medical Services is requiring all Emergency Medical Responders (EMR) and Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT) demonstrate the following requirements.  This excerpt is taken directly from the Public Act 21-46:

Pursuant to Public Act 21-46, effective January 1, 2022, all applicants for renewal of certification as an emergency medical responder (EMR), emergency medical technician (EMT) must demonstrate to the Department that they have completed one of the following training programs:

  1. Question, Persuade and Refer (QPR) Institute Gatekeeper Training as provided by the Youth Suicide Advisory Board in conjunction with the Office of the Child Advocate, or
  2. Not less than two (2) hours of training or education, approved by the Department of Public Health on screening for post-traumatic stress disorder, risk of suicide, depression and grief and suicide prevention.

If you have completed this training in the past 6 years, then you don’t need to do anything.  However, if you have not, it is now a requirement that you complete this important suicide prevention training.

CPR Training Professionals is offering the QPR gatekeeper training in conjunction with the EMS refreshers we offer, and it will be an add on option to the course during the registration process.

This course that CPR Training Professionals offers via QPR is approximately 1 hour long and is approved by the State of CT for this mandated training.

Do not be intimidated by this topic or this online course.  We have done it and we were impressed with the information and presentation.  We truly believe it will make a difference, the more people that do it.
